We are born with confidence. Self-doubts creep into our consciousness as we learn and listen to others’ limiting beliefs based on their experiences.
How do you build that confidence back when it’s been eroded away?
YOU are responsible for how you show up in your day. You are responsible for your mood and attitude. It is up to you to start and end your day in a way that YOU control and choose. It’s a choice to be positive. It’s a choice to build ourselves up in such a way that when others bring their negativity into your space, you can more easily deflect. How many times has someone else sucked you into their drama or their bad mood? It happens!
It is up to you to allow it or not. When you build up your day with positive self- talk, it creates an invisible shield and the negativity will bounce off that shield.
I started doing this exercise 20 years ago, when I was in flight school and had drawn the flight instructor who didn’t believe women should fly, I HAD to find a way to boost my inner reserves of positivity!
Every morning, as I was brushing my teeth, I would think “I AM….. smart, a good pilot, worthy, powerful, strong” Over and over again– those were my 5 words. Every morning, every night, I would repeat these words over and over in my head as I brushed my teeth. Then I’d spit and rinse out the toothpaste and say them aloud to myself. Without this process, I don’t know that I would have survived the 6+ weeks of verbal abuse that the prejudice instructor inflicted on me. Just because he felt that way, didn’t mean I had to believe it!! And I didn’t. I survived it and this I AM strategy has stayed with me since.
Now I’m able to share it with YOU in The P.I.L.O.T. Method and with this blog post.
